About the Artist
Jayne Feinberg Stuecklen’s artistic journey spans eight decades and reflects a deep commitment to creativity, transformation, and service. Born in Suffern, New York, she trained at the Parsons School of Design and the Art Students League of New York in New York City, and later at the University of Texas at Austin.
Over her long career, Stuecklen has engaged in teaching and community-oriented art projects—most notably in Vermont where she developed the “I Am Still Here” program for people living with dementia in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association.
Her work merges personal memoir, social engagement, and formal experimentation in painting, watercolor, collage and assemblage.
Artistic Practice
Jayne Feinberg Stuecklen’s artistic practice is rooted in improvisation and reflection. She works across oil painting, watercolor, assemblage and collage, often drawing from her own experiences, memories and emotional states. Her process remains open: found objects may become textures in collage, watercolor washes may evolve into layered abstraction, and oil surfaces may retain traces of remnant gestures. Light from the Hudson River, the rhythms of her studio in Nyack, and the layers of lived experience all enter her work. Her visual language invites the viewer into a quiet interior world—where surfaces record feelings, time compresses into form, and hidden desires gently emerge.

Stuecklen’s life and work embody the mission of iO Arts Center—to transform art into experience, to give voice to the unseen, and to build bridges between personal and collective meaning. Her dedication to community, her willingness to explore process over perfection, and her work’s emotional resonance all mirror iO’s commitment to exploration, connection and awakening. Through this retrospective, iO invites visitors not only to witness an artist’s journey but to reflect on their own.
Artist Philosophy
“My art is a memoir of feeling, a layering of past, present, and hope. I keep making because there is always something invisible pushing through to form.”
